Why Choose Expert Tuning?

Expert Tuning is not just "another tuning company".  We are backed by years of experience in both electronic & mechanical tuning and work with some of the biggest tuning houses across Europe to offer the very best results & service available in the world today.  We give you the choice of the level of tune you want.  Whether it is performance or economy tuning, we have the ability to meet your exact requirements.

Will remapping invalidate my vehicle's warranty?

There are several ways to upload modified software to a vehicle's ECU, but due to our investment in the latest tuning hardware we are able to reprogram most of the vehicles we cover via the vehicles OBD port (on board diagnostics) and as such leave no physical evidence of our work behind. All codes and diagnostics that a dealer may read through standard diagnostics will remain exactly the same.  In the event your vehicle needs ECU removal for tuning we will inform you beforehand.  Please contact us to discuss your options if your vehicle is still under warranty and you have concerns as some manufacturers may be able to detect ECU modifications.  We have solutions that will give you the confidence to move forward.

Can the process be reversed?

Of course, if for any reason you would like your vehicle to be returned to its original settings maybe when you're ready to change vehicle, we can reverse the whole process.  There may be a very small charge depending on the labour involved but this will be deductible from a future remap.  In most cases the enhanced performance may help the sale of your vehicle.  Should you lose your modified software due to dealer actions or parts failure your we will be happy to re-install the map onto your car free of charge (for OBD remaps) for as long as you own the vehicle.

Should I tell my insurance company?

Whilst the upgrade is usually undetectable, we are a responsible company and the answer to this question has to be ‘yes’.  Your insurance company should be notified.  Some insurance companies do not penalise you for upgrades of this nature, particularly if you're tuning for increased economy.  Others make a small charge.  We have been surveying our customers and so far have found that when premiums increase, it has often been a small amount, typically less than £30 - £20 of which is for admin for the immediate change, so following years will see an increase of under £10 on renewals.

Will my fuel consumption increase after remapping?

No!  In fact quite the opposite.  Even if you choose a performance tune for your vehicle, if you continue to drive the car in the same style as you did before the upgrade, then your fuel consumption will normally improve by over 10% on a turbo-diesel.  Of course if you choose to have a track map installed on the vehicle and you are driving under the conditions with which a track map is intended you're likely to find a slightly reduced mpg figure.  Economy tuning can return a bigger improvement in fuel consumption than power tuning but, for most people, power tuning offers the best combination of more pleasureable driving AND fuel economy improvement.

Will remapping increase engine wear?

If your engine is in sound condition, and has been properly maintained, it is safe with an Expert Tuning upgrade.  Sadly some companies over-tune, ‘stressing’ the engine, transmission, cooling systems, etc, and reducing the life span and reliability of the car.  This is why it's so important to choose the right company to complete your remap so the risk is minimised.  We take great time & care to ensure that our modifications have no detrimental effect on your car if it is in good order.  Naturally, if you have a high mileage car, it is inevitable that some components may be worn, so you need to take this into consideration.  Even though we run diagnostics before each remap it is not possible to detect signs of mechanical wear or imminent component failure at the time of the remap.  Our highly experienced remappers have been working in this field for more than 20 years.  In a lot of cases the economy tune actually helps to extend the life of components such as the clutch and gearbox by making the delivery of the power far less aggressive and smoothing the overall drive of the vehicle.  Good common sense says you should ensure your vehicle is regularly maintained using good quality service components and oil.

Are plug and play tuning boxes, chips or pre-modified files on the internet any good?

While there are some very cheap tuning boxes available we can only recommend they be avoided as they can vary from nothing more than a resistor in a box to a generically tuned basic processor that has not been tailored for individual engines.  Higher end tuning modules are available from us and can provide good results when a remap is not an option.  Our British made tuning module is individually mapped for each model it is fitted to, and can provide superb results as a remap alternative.  It is sold by our trade customers including VAG specialists and others.

Why do prices vary so much?

Some companies do not provide safe, customised maps, and do not use leading remapping equipment.  This keeps costs down but is risky for your ECU, and likely to provide you with a poor map that is not specifically designed for your car.  Other companies believe that a high price gives the illusion of higher quality, whereas in reality they're just plain expensive!  Yet others think that is you drive a Porsche or an Aston, then you can automatically just pay more.  We don't believe in those practices here!  If the work is the same for a Clio or an Aston, then we charge the same for a Clio or an Aston.

We advise that remapping using generic files and unsupported devices for sale on the web should be avoided at all cost.  We've seen too many customers with troubles after a bad experience from a spare-time tuner that bought their equipment and standard files from eBay.  No wonder they can offer cheap remaps!  Also, we sometimes see cars that have already been remapped, but with low quality maps we can significantly improve on.  Remember - every remap we perform is customised for your engine and only for your engine.  It has to be that way because the changes manufacturers may have made during their production cycles mean there is no such thing as a generic remap for any given engine series.
